Pink Flower Pin Girl-i-fies Camo Jacket

Happy Hump Day! I'm always glad when we make it to Wednesday. It means we made it through Monday. And Tuesday. Sometimes Monday and Tuesday together seem like one long, giant, Monday.  For today's closet shopping I was really feeling baby pink. The color of this sweater gave me a little extra spring in my step which was much needed, as today is another white-skied and chilly April day. I was heading out for errands this morning and needed a little jacket so I added my camo jackie. I LOVE adding camo to girly colors like pink. And what I LOVE even more is adding girly accessories to camo! Take a look at this next pic!

I added my multi-color/shimmer scarf and my beloved pink flower pin! Now this is girly! With just a tiny bit of an edge from the camouflage...

I love this pin. I bought it at a consignment furniture shop of all places. I went there looking for a chair and left with this pin and 3 cupcake aprons! I knew I had to buy this sparkly little pin. At the time, I thought it would just look pretty in my jewelry box (which I was perfectly ok with). But now! It has purpose! It plays a very important role in girlifying this camo jacket. :)

Consignment Coogi Jeans and Vintage Gap Jacket

What a great way to celebrate the end of tax season! Well, perhaps we should celebrate the beginning of a new season--Spring! True, it's April 15 and it's only 30 degrees outside. But the sun feels like Spring sun and the stars at night look like Spring stars. Today's outfit is layered and fun, with years of age differences between some of the pieces! This coral pink starry sweater is from Target (2012) and, while I'd prefer not to cover it with a jacket, this crispy Spring weather is forcing me to. But that's okay because it means I can wear this 'used' cinch-waist Gap camel jacket (Cinderella's Closet, 2011). I think the camel and pink make a cool combo. The pink helps the camel to not take itself so seriously. :) And the camel echoes the goldish bursts of color in my embroidered and patched Coogi jeans (consignment,2011). And no outfit is complete without...accessories! I popped on my multicolor/shimmery scarf from Urban outfitters (2005), old silver hoops from 100 years ago, and some wrist candy mostly from Goodwill. :)

Black Basics from Delia's, TJ Maxx, and Target

Just look at that bright burst of Spring popping through the window! Ok, I may have punched up the green factor in this pic but only to make the tree look the way it should look this time of year. ;) I was really feeling black this morning. No, I was not in a dark mood but in the mood for dressing dark! I grabbed this silky little top from Delia's, threw a Calvin Klein black cami underneath it, and popped on my black Target leggings. My feet also wanted to be invited to this dressing-dark party so I put on my black cowgirl boots. I figured this outfit could use some bling so I slung my gold-chained purse over my shoulder and called it good. Classic black and gold. How can you go wrong.

2014 Jeggings and 1960 Cardigan

Old, older, and oldest! There are oodles of oldies in this closet shopping outfit. I bought the sparkly minty teal belt at Goodwill a couple years ago, the emerald/teal silk cami was 'used' but with the tags still on it, and the beadwork cardigan is from a vintage shop that I visited back in 1999!

The only new pieces are the white cami, the black stonewashed jeggings, and the cowgirl boots. I like pairing the 'now' stonewashed jeggings and cowgirl boots with the 'then' cardigan (I'm guessing this puppy is from the 1960s). Age is just a number, especially when it comes to clothes. :)

Borderline Crop Top and a Side Ponytail

Pink, purple, and a side ponytail are a recipe for happiness--at least in my book. Today is another overcast, chilly-ish April day so I felt it was imperative to wear some happy colors to make up for the lack of sun. This little top is borderline cropped so I put on an extra cami underneath to give it a tad bit more length. Then I bundled up with a long skinny cardigan and my black cowgirl boots. Easy as pink n' purple pie. :)

Dressing Rich on a Frugal Fashionista Budget: Charles David to H&M to Goodwill

I am so PUMPED about today's closet shopping outfit! I bought these boots 2 weeks ago and thought that I would have to buy something new to wear them with. Turns out, I already had the perfect outfit to go with the boots and never had the right footwear to wear with it! This is incredible. Just incredible! But here's the really sweet thing about these boots: they are Charles David leather/suede brand new, never-been-worn knee-high boots...that retail for $500! That's not the good news. The good news is that I got them for 20 bucks at Goodwill! When my girlfriend told the cashier that together she and I had just picked up over $1000-worth of clothes and shoes (my friend bought a $400 Nanette Lapore jacket for $8) the cashier looked as though she had just seen two frugal fashionista ghosts!

I always say the outfit is in the details so here are the main players. Along with my H&M leggings and Miss Me top, I also wore a blush/grey bamboo scarf (pre-owned, $10), ginormous hoop earrings (Goodwill, $3), and my blush-colored pleather ruffle jackie (Target, $30). This jacket and these boots go hand in hand! Or, should I say 'cuff in foot'...:)

Cheetah Prints: Still Winterizing My Clothes on The First Day of April

I bet you didn't know that I was one of a set of quadruplets! And still, after all these years, we love to dress exactly alike. :) But let's get down to business. The business of cheetah prints and warming them up for this sunny yet chilly first day of April! As I've said before, I am not one to pack away my summer clothes just because winter has arrived. What do I do? I winterize them! For today's outfit, I started out with my cheetah heart tank. Brrr. So I added my mini cheetah sweatshirt. Better. But still a little brrr. I popped on my Mr. Rogers sweater to add a major warmth factor. And finally, I added my hot pink cashmere scarf. No, the outfit doesn't need it, but I am heading out soon and don't want a cold neck. Even during these pretend-Spring days, go ahead and warm up your summer wear or cool down your winter duds. You will see your wardrobe expanding before your very eyes.

I will admit this is my favorite part of the outfit--the cheetah ring! The heart-shaped soul mate to my cheetah tank...

'I Miss You' by Sinful Colors Packs a Major Punch of Sparkle

The name of this nail polish (by Sinful Colors) is quite fitting: I Miss You. It's fitting because it's been a week since I painted my nails last and I MISSED painting them! I picked this sparkly purple polish up last week when I was grocery shopping. I used to buy myself a magazine as a 'treat' for doing the big household grocery outing but for the past year it's been nail polish. I don't buy a bottle every time but when a color speaks to me, as this one did, I pop it into the cart and have an extra spring in my step.

First I painted on 2 coats of Sinful Colors 'Fig', then I applied 2 coats of 'I Miss You.' Here's what I love about 'I Miss You'--It actually looks as good on the nails as it does in the bottle! I've found that a lot of sparkly polishes, once applied, are pretty thin and the sparkles are sparse. Not with this stuff! You get mega multi-faceted sparkle with each stroke. And the sparkles aren't just plain silver and gold. No way. There are flecks of magenta and subtle emerald in there!

I love this color. This is what my nail polish collection has been missing! :)

Where's My Tutu Again?

You know on the old What Not To Wear intro where there was that sign that said 'no mini skirts over...' (a certain age)? HOGWASH! Because if that were true, that would mean that tutus wouldn't be allowed either. And that, to me, would be completely unacceptable. No, I'm not over that 'certain age' yet, but I will be someday and I will never, ever believe in or fall for such a silly rule. And I hope other women don't fall for those crappy style-and-age rules either. Those rules were made up by women who abhor fashion rather than adore fashion. Well, stick with me! It's tutu time!

This little tulle treat has been lofting in my closet since 2009. It's only been worn once before. Haha, I wore it bowling! Gotta love that...Anyway, I wanted to girlify my lounge-like outfit pictured to the left. Ok, a sweater adorned with hot pink hearts already qualifies as girly but the boring yoga pants just weren't doing it for me. I simply popped the tutu over my leggings, pinned both braids up and away, and swapped my sparkle flats for my black cowgirl boots. Instant girlification with a splash of glam! Mr. Man and I are outta here! I shall tip toe through the snow in my tutu. :)

Levis, Pink Glasses, Wrist Candy, & Minnetonka Moccasins

Just a simple before and after here on this sunny Monday afternoon. I had a hankering to wear my holey Levi's skinny jeans today. While I was looking for just the right top, my lil' white riittastyle tee-shirt popped up and practically jumped out of the drawer. I had put on my white studded belt and thought that would be enough of an accessory. But no. My wrist felt empty, my feet wanted flair, and my eyes wanted to see better. So voila! In pic number 2 I have added wrist candy to my wrist, Minnetonka Moccasin booties to my feet, and pink and periwinkle glasses to my peepers. This little outfit went from safe to styled. :)

Turning a Crummy Day into Cookie Crumbs

It's a bit of a blue Tuesday here in RJ Land. The sun is not shining and it's just a low-energy day. I haven't felt like doing much of anything. Even while working, I drift off into a comfy stare, looking at my chipping nail polish and thinking I should re-do them. But I don't. Or I'll find myself walking away from my laptop and the next thing you know I'm curling my hair--yet I never bothered to put make up on today. Ugh! I needed to snap out of my funk so I made myself bake cookies. Baking is usually one of the few things that can turn a bad day around and I must say, it didn't let me down!

M&M cookies are my husband's favorite. It's a win-win situation here. I've turned my crummy day into productive cookie crumbs with a better mood and my husband will have a sweet treat waiting for him when he gets home. :)

Wearing Layers from Minnesota to Florida

My sister's spare bedroom has been blogified! I was at her house last week when I snapped these little pics. This was the day we flew to Tampa. It was about 34 degrees in Minneapolis and 79 in Tampa so I figured layering was in order. I should have taken a snapshot of this camel-colored tunic without the black sweater, but I forgot. It is short-sleeved and linen-like. Planes are always chilly so I added this long black sweater. Minnesota is chillier than chilly so I also wore my furry-collared and cuffed denim jacket (fur is removeable). On my legs are my 'vinyl' leggings with geometric shapes and on my tootsies are my Steve Madden gold-studded boots. I was perfectly comfortable on the plane in this outfit. I figured I could ditch the sweater and jean jacket once in Florida. And, if need be, swap the boots for sparkly black flats. I do believe layering is the key to stress-free traveling. :)

Power Orange and A Happy Breakfast

Step right up to a super yummy and colorful breakfast! My mom had brought some 'power oranges' over and man those things are tasty! It tastes like part grapefruit, part sweet orange. A delicious combo indeed! And do you see the rich color it has? Gorgeous! The orange is definitely the star of this meal but also on the plate are: eggs with ham, half an apple, and some gluten free toast. All surrounded by hearts of course. ;)

Sliced-up Salvation Army Tee Shirt Scarf

Days like this I wonder why I don't have more yellow in my life! And I never would have thought I'd have a happy little yellow scarf wrapped around my neck either. And I bet this once-upon-a-time tee shirt never thought it would be sliced, diced, and sewn into a scarf! ;)

Yep, this little monkey used to be a tee shirt at Salvation Army. I saw it on the rack, saw the black wings and sparkles on it, and knew that I could make it into something else. And voila! I sliced it up, sewed some rainbow-colored cheetah ribbon to the edges and bam! It makes a cute infinity scarf.
And how about how it totally livened up this oh-so-boring outfit! There was no way I was going to go out in this ensemble the way it looks in pic 1 or 2. I'd rather watch bananas turn brown! I had a vision of yellow and remembered that this lil scarf was still upstairs with my sewing machine! All alone and forgotten!

But not as lonely as it was when it was living at Salvation Army, hanging out with tee shirts that had no  dreams and no sense of adventure.

I love that there's silver shimmer, rhinestones, and wings all wrapped up in one scarf!

The wrist candy made for the cream on the banana cream pie of an outfit! What could be better than yellow but another dash of yellow! :) See my Salvation Army scarf video here!

Egg and Coconut Oil Hair Mask from Pinterest

Peek-a-boo! Who's under that towel? It's me! With a head full of sloppy, gloppy goo! My niece sent me a Pinterest pin about this egg/coconut oil hair mask and I decided to give it a whirl. I love eggs, love coconut oil, and love shiny hair. Why not?

I grabbed 1 egg, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, and 1/2 C of water and whisked them up.

I had melted the coconut oil in the microwave, but when mixed with the cool egg it instantly started to solidify and produced teeny tiny oil chunks throughout the mixture. Plus, the coconut oil has a slightly sweet scent and that made my egg mask concoction smell quite unpleasant. Once I got it all absorbed into my hair and secured underneath a towel, the stink became a distant memory.

Today's hair day was totally decent. I'm not sure if all the credit goes to the egg mask, for I did use my good-hair-day-in-a-bottle shampoo Wella Brilliance. But let's just say it was the mask. :)

Keep Calm and Eat Shortcake

Summer isn't here. I can't make summer get here sooner. But I can trick my mouth into thinking it's summer! Thank goodness for blueberries. There's no berry that's more summery than the Great Blueberry. So I figured some blueberry shortcake was in order. I shall turn on all the lights, turn the temp in the house wayyy up, and listen to tropical salsa music, all while eating this lovely summery treat. Time to keep calm and eat shortcake. :)

Warming Up a Non-Winter Outfit With Faux Fur and Forever 21 Hearts

It is time, once again, to winterize yet another outfit. This -25 degree weather doesn't look like it's going anywhere anytime soon so I'm throwing in the towel (or scarf) and surrendering to Old Man Winter. I really don't have an expansive wardrobe in general or an expansive winter wardrobe in particular, so I've been taking quite a few summer pieces and warming them up with sweaters and layers.

Brrr! I am getting chilly just looking at pic #1! Heart sweater to the rescue in pic #2! Now my neck needs some bundling...enter sparkly pink scarf in pic #3! No, it's not a winter scarf but it is a hot pink scarf and it'll do the job of warming my neck. I'm not done! Time to warm the core with my faux fur super-snuggly grey vest. I love this thing! I bought it for myself for Christmas 1 year ago and have dealt with some hefty guilt ever since because of the price...But not anymore! Not since I've been wearing it a ton this winter! Money well spent. This furry baby happily warms up many outfits. :)

How To Wear A See-Through H&M Dress in Winter

black dress~H&M 2014
jean jacket~DKNY 2003
black tank~Urban Outfitters 2000-something
black leggings~H&M 2014
Once upon a time...about 1 month ago...I came across this long, sheer, black dress at H&M. It was love at first sight, even though I could see right through the thing. I tried it on and knew it was meant to come home with me. I also knew that it was a bit of an odd dress being that it's a see-through winter number. But I love a challenge!

Underneath I wore a black sparkly tank from Urban Outfitters, funky new 'vinyl' leggings from H&M, my DKNY black jean jacket, and my faux crocodile black boots! I must say I am delighted with the results, considering I wasn't sure where to start this morning. Adding a messy topknot and big hoop earrings, along with the collar turned up on the jean jacket, gives this outfit a more playful look. I think without the aforementioned items it would look a bit too formal. ;)

Way to go, H&M! I'm pretty sure H&M stands for 'happy and magical'. :)

Jordana Vs. Jordana: Fighting Over The Same Lashes

If it ain't broke, don't switch it! I did something I'm not proud of--I cheated on my mascara. With its cousin! That's right. For over a year now I've been using Jordana Best Lash Extreme mascara and have been loving it. Then one day at Walgreens I saw its cute little relative Jordana Volume Extreme sitting right next to it. It was so cute in its neon green and black tube, with its slightly plumper shape. Before I knew it, it was going for a ride to the checkout in my shopping basket! We got home, I opened it up, and immediately applied it to my lashes. What happened next surprised us both. It was a total bust! The new mascara had zero chemistry with my eyelashes. They literally fell flat! Plus it looked as though I had not even put any mascara on. My eyes looked dull and tired and completely mascara-less.

This is what I get for being impulsive. There was nothing wrong with my original Jordana Best Lash Extreme mascara. It had everything right with it! Rich black color, thickening and volumizing formula, and the ability to hold a curl. The above pic is the ultimate proof. On the left is my sad set of eyes with the disappointing Volume Extreme (more like Volume Extremely Lacking) and on the right (and taken the next day after I had gone back and exchanged the mascara for the original) is a pic of my eyelashes displaying the lovely, luscious original Best Lash Extreme mascara. Also on display is my suddenly-morphed amber-colored skin tone! He he he. Ah the power of filters. :) But even the filter on the left couldn't help the sad state of my lashes with the volume-lacking mascara. Lesson learned!

Sweet Comfort Foods: Pie, Cake, Cookies, and Cinnamon Rolls

Top left: Candied Yam Custard
Top right: Blueberry
Bottom left: Strawberry
Bottom right: Apple
Yum! Talk about a Friday of Food! I'm a lover of sweet and pretty treats and just came across this pie collage that I put together this winter. These are the pies I made for my husband last summer/fall. I can't believe they haven't been blogified until now! Better late than never. Golden crusts, sweet and warm fillings. My favorite form of comfort food. :)

The picture of happiness. A Barbie pink layer cake with sparkly pink sprinkles on top! This was so much fun to make. And Mr. Man had so much fun eating it for his lunch dessert at work. :)

Triple Cs! Chocolate chip cookies. Nothing turns me into Cookie Monster more than these classic cookies. In a perfect world, I'd eat them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and dessert.

Mmm, the smell of cinnamon rolls wafting from the oven, with a fire in the fireplace, playing Skip-Bo with the one I love. That is a perfect night to me. And, this all happened last night. I made these yummy-in-the-tummy cinnamon rolls as a surprise for Mr. Man. I even had him mask his eyes and cover his ears so he wouldn't see or hear the rolling pin. Luckily for me, he fell asleep on the couch and dozed throughout the entire dough-making process. When he awoke, Gilmore Girls was on the tube and I had snuck out for a walk while my buns raised. ;) By the time I got back, the biscuits were ready to go into the oven. Tonight, we are doing a repeat of last night--fire in the fireplace, Skip-Bo, cinnamon rolls. Only this time it's pepperoni pizza and chocolate malts for dinner with cinnamon rolls for dessert. And instead of Gilmore Girls it's my guilty pleasure show Real Housewives of Miami. The icing on the roll. :)

A 'Heart-y' Lunch

As much as I try I just can't shake this addiction to all things 'heart'! Ok, you got me--I don't wanna shake this addiction and I've never tried! Anything that's heart-related is good for me. And what's good for the heart is finding happiness in simple pleasures! I prepared this cute little lunch today and had an impromptu photo shoot because of its effortless cuteness. All these heart pieces just fell into place. The heart plate, heart glass, and heart place mat (a dish towel in disguise) are all from Target. Sweetness abounds! And let's not forget the food! That is a super-yummy chicken salad wrap, gala apple, and my favorite potato chip in the world--Rachel's Salt and Vinegar! My tongue is tingling from the vinegar just thinking about it...And then there's my BFF M&M! I have chocolate after every meal. The only thing that's better than sweet treats is when they're presented in fun dishes. This is a little pinch bowl (about 1/4 Cup size) from a rainbow-colored set of 6. I have the blue pinch bowl full of M&Ms next to my computer as I type. So addicting. Plus, I think they make me write better. :)

Candy Heart Mani Dipped in Glitter

Ah the month of February! I love this month for 3 reasons:
1. We made it through January.
2. We've almost made it to March.
3. Valentine's Day is smack in the middle!

That's right! Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays because it embodies all of life's wonderful things; pink, hearts, love, and--most importantly--candy! My niece and I had a slumber party this weekend and we gave ourselves some Valentine-inspired manicures.

Fing'rs glitter pot
I finally got to pop open one of my new glitter pots and dip my nails into this sparkly goodness! Glitter makes everything glam and I was more than happy to glam up my candy-colored nails.

Though I'm not a big fan of the taste of conversation hearts, I sure love all the colors! And the quotes!

I could just eat these candy-coated nails. With the sparkle speckles on my nails, it makes me think of Easter-time robins' egg malted milk candies. Oh boy! Another sweet-filled holiday 'round the bend...

My niece decided to work from the colors in her new scarf and created this fun, poppy look. Sweet!

I'll never stop saying it: matching itty-bitty details like nail color to scarves or even socks can make a HUGE difference in an outfit's fun factor.

Another happy Valentine's Day has come and gone but our sweet candy manis live on! :)
